Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) is a federal requirement established by the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) for new commercial drivers. If you are applying for a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Class A or Class B, you must complete ELDT training before taking your skills test.
ELDT consists of theory (knowledge) training and, in some cases, behind-the-wheel training. The theory portion can be completed entirely online through an FMCSA-approved provider like ELDT4U.
After completing your ELDT training, your provider must submit your results to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR). Without this submission, you cannot proceed to your CDL skills test.
